Job Description

The Role

As Family Support Officer you will provide case management and support services including assessment, counselling, education/training and therapeutic interventions to vulnerable families and children (unborn to under 18 years) engaged in the (SERVICE). The service aims to reduce harm or risk of harm, prevent crises or problems from arising or escalating and stabilise or maintain the family’s wellbeing. 

Vulnerable families are defined as families with child/ren or unborn, to under 18 years of age where the family have had previous involvement with or are at risk of progressing into the statutory child protection system without support.

This position requires staff to work in compliance with the Human Services Quality Framework and the Child Protection Act 1999. Staff are also required to adhere to the Society’s Child Protection Framework at all times.

This is a PERMANENT PART TIME Position (30.4 hours per week) role based in Toowoomba.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:

  • Diploma in Family Intervention, Mental Health, Disability, Community Services  or similar and/or demonstrated experience in working in the community services sector. A tertiary qualification in the Social Sciences, Social Work, or similar would be well regarded
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a child centered family focused framework
  • Ability to work collaboratively and within boundaries and maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs
  • Develop a comprehensive network of relevant agencies, both Government and non-Government, to support the needs of clients.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of motivation, initiative, and creativity
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
  • The successful candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete pre-employment checks which will include a National Criminal History Records Check
  • The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Blue Card
  • COVID-19 vaccination status is recommended for this role but not a mandatory requirement.
