Job Description
The Role
As a Crisis Support Worker, you will provide compassionate, practical and client-centred support to women and children accessing our crisis accommodation program. Working across the full client journey—from intake through to transition—you’ll help clients stabilise, feel safe, and build the skills and confidence needed for independent living.
What You’ll Be Doing
Provide holistic, trauma-informed support to clients experiencing domestic and family violence
Deliver case management, including assessment, safety planning and goal setting
Support clients to access safe housing, services and community connections
Advocate for clients and assist them to navigate complex systems
Build trust through respectful, strengths-based engagement
Maintain accurate records and contribute to a safe, well-run environment
Work collaboratively within a supportive multidisciplinary team
Must be flexible to work a rotating roster and available for backfilling shifts when required.

Desired Skills and Experience
To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:
Minimum Certificate III in Community Services or related field (Mandatory)
Hold a current Blue Card (Mandatory)
Understanding of DFV dynamics, risk assessment, safety planning and trauma‑informed practice
Experience working with culturally diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
Ability to navigate crisis environments with calm, grounded decision‑making
Knowledge of and ability to work within relevant legislation and guidelines relating to the delivery of specialist homelessness services
Previous experience as a Support Worker or equivalent within the homelessness support sector or related field
Ability to deliver advocacy on behalf of clients and always ensure confidentiality of client information
Ability to work unsupervised at times as well as an effective team member
Contribute positively within a team environment
Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to learn
Effective communication and time management skills
Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation
Understanding of risk management principles including current WHS legislation and regulations
Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
