Job Description

The Role 

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced leader in the Housing & Homelessness sector to make a difference in a dynamic and leading NFP organisation. Reporting directly to the State Manager Housing & Homelessness, the Area Manager will provide high-level leadership and management support to Program operations that include hostel facilities, community programs and outreach services. 

You will embed values-based leadership in ensuring that programs are operated in accordance with service delivery, streamlined processes, wise management of resources and financial management whilst delivering outputs aligned to our mission and ‘good works’. This role will implement training and development initiatives to upskill staff and enhance engagement. You will also lead stakeholder engagement, both internal and external, managing project work, and growing program services to meet community needs.

You will bring management and strategic experience, passion, innovation, and knowledge to demonstrate effective values-based leadership to motivate and mentor people to meet strategic objectives and operational targets aligned with our mission and values. 

This 12-month, full time (38 hours per week) role is based in South Brisbane but will have oversight of services across Central Queensland (Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Mackay). Travel to these locations is a crucial requirement of the role, and applicants must show the ability to undertake this travel.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this position, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Proven experience in a senior management role leading a team and overseeing housing, hostel and homelessness support programs
  • Demonstrated capacity and knowledge to work within a legislative environment to include the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Act 2008, Corrective Services Act 2006, Disability Act 2006, Mental Health Act 2000, Human Services Quality Framework and other relevant legislative requirements, sector guidelines and policies
  • Strong financial experience with the ability to develop and monitor budgets, manage multiple cost centres and ensure acquittals are conducted in accordance with agreement requirements
  • High-level analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills with proven experience of effective and profound leadership and management skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills, including strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to lead, influence and support teams, and effectively navigate complex and challenging interactions
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and oral and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of people
