Job Description

The Role

As the Administration Officer, you will be responsible for providing proficient and professional administrative and reception services at our Homelessness Accommodation and Homestay Program in Cairns. Working under general guidance, you will perform a variety of administrative tasks including basic bookkeeping, supporting senior staff with specific projects, and providing oversight and assistance to administration staff and volunteers.

You will also manage the daily operations of reception, coordinate vehicle bookings, and assist with building/site maintenance and security as required. This role will also involve ad hoc tasks as they arise, requiring flexibility and a proactive approach. Familiarity with social services and Centrelink processes will be highly regarded, particularly within a not-for-profit environment, given the nature of our work and the communities we support. A key focus of this role is to ensure the provision of timely and accurate customer-centred support which enables the Society to efficiently achieve desired outcomes across business operations.

This is a Permanent, Full-Time Position (38 hours per week) role based in Cairns.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:

  • Previous experience in a general administrative support role. Experience within the housing and homelessness, or community services sector will be highly regarded.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Microsoft Office suite proficiency with intermediate aptitude in Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Exemplary phone manner and a professional attitude which promotes SVdP’s core values 
  • Developed interpersonal, communication and organisation skills
  • Personal aptitude for attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentially on information at all times
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
